40:1-5 Submission These were Job’s first words since his arrogant challenge in 31:35-37. God took Job’s contention seriously. Like Elihu, the Lord accused Job of trying to correct him. Job’s response was to cover his mouth and humbly submit to the sovereignty of Almighty God.

40:15-24 Ode to the Behemoth The Hebrew word for behemoth refers either to a collective of powerful animals or to a large “super beast” of some sort. Regardless of the specific identity, God’s point is that Job is no more a match for the strong, large Behemoth than he is for God’s power. God is powerful enough to heal our disabilities, illnesses, and other challenges—the “behemoths” in our own lives.
