22:1-31 The Suffering Servant This song, quoted by Jesus as he hung on the cross, expresses the profound sense of abandonment felt by both the psalmist and Jesus, the Suffering Servant of whom the psalm speaks. Thankfully, the song does not end with the anguish of the first 21 verses. In what is sometimes called “the psalmist’s turn,” the author finds comfort in reflecting on God’s past provision, concluding that because God has been faithful in the past, there is hope for the future (22:22-31).
