2:11 Idol of Success In his ongoing search for meaning and satisfaction, Solomon considers the value of work. He describes the futility of all his labor and striving for success. Many in our current culture fail to realize this, turning career goals or achievements into false gods. When those things are stripped away as a result of a tragic accident or diagnosis, we can be left feeling as if we have no purpose or value. But when we trust in God, we realize that our value and purpose do not depend on accomplishment and achievement. Keeping God at the center of our lives gives meaning and purpose to everything we do.

2:18-21 Leaving a Legacy Regardless of how much we accumulate, we can’t take it with us. God has given each of us resources to manage during our lifetime. Many parents of children with special needs are diligent to plan ahead and provide the financial means necessary to support their adult child after their deaths. While it’s prudent to plan (Prov 27:12), our confidence ultimately must lie in knowing that God is in control of the future.
