50:4 Comfort the Weary In these next few chapters, we are introduced to a figure who supersedes Isaiah—the Suffering Servant, whom the early church identified as Jesus. The weary are comforted through the wisdom of the Lord, by the one who experienced the suffering described in Isaiah 50:6 (see Matt 27:27-31). The comfort this Servant offers is unique because, as the only person who is both divine and human, Jesus fully understands our weariness.
