62:4 The Bride of God The New Testament describes the church as the bride of Jesus Christ (Eph 5:21-31; Rev 19:6-9; 21:9–22:6, 17), drawing on Isaiah and other prophets. This picture emphasizes the intimate love that God has for his people—the Lord delights in Zion, and rejoices in Israel like a bridegroom exults in his bride. We need to recover how astonishing it is that God loves us in this way.
