63:8-9 He Also Suffered Amid a powerful description of God’s vengeance on the enemies of his people, Isaiah says something we must not miss: The Savior suffers with those who suffer, personally rescuing them because of his love and mercy and carrying them throughout their painful history. We see this most fully in the person of Jesus Christ, but the Lord is consistent. We never suffer alone; God is there.
63:16 Still Our Father God’s people cry out to him for relief, reminding him of his promises and asking for mercy. They do so as children calling upon their Father, in whom they trust and on whom they depend. Such passionate and personal language describes a deep identification of God with his people—an unbroken relationship despite the wicked actions of Israel—where God remains Father no matter what.
