11:25 We Will Be Raised! Jesus’ claim to be the source of resurrection and life is not some theoretical abstraction. No. He is “the resurrection and the life.” He supported his claim by raising Lazarus from the dead. Life is physically and mentally challenging, and we long for relief. Jesus has promised to resurrect us (Rom 8:23). By resurrecting Lazarus, and then being resurrected himself, Jesus has proven his claim is trustworthy.
11:38-45 Victory over Death Jesus demonstrated his divine identity through victory over death itself. He is the resurrection! John records this and other signs not only to reveal Jesus’ identity, but also so that we might believe in him. Jesus healed sick and disabled people, alleviated suffering, fed many, exercised power over nature, and raised the dead. If we do not believe from all that, what more would it take?
