2:11 Mutual Respect Playing favorites divides a group and belittles both the favorites and non-favorites. The favorites are belittled by the assumption that they need an advantage over others, and the non-favorites are belittled by the assumption that they are somehow less valuable than those who receive preferential treatment. Making accommodations for people with disabilities who live in a world designed for those without disabilities is not showing favoritism—it is simply providing access to the same privileges other people already enjoy. When we treat those with and without disabilities fairly, we show respect and dignity to everyone, acknowledging the humanity that reflects God’s image in each of us.
