8:23 Serving in the Second Chair It can be difficult to work behind the scenes and do so much for so little recognition. Titus was not as well-known as Paul. Whereas Paul was the up-front speaker and teacher, Titus was clearly working behind the scenes in service to the church. But Titus embraced his opportunity to serve and was eager to do what was asked of him for God’s Kingdom (8:17). Serving God with joy, knowing that we are pleasing God and not caring who else notices, is an essential part of building God’s Kingdom. We may even receive unsolicited praise like Titus did when Paul told the Corinthians that God had given Titus the same heart as Paul (8:16). Serving in the second chair gives us the opportunity to exercise humility, and when others notice that, it brings even more glory to God.
