12:13–13:18 A Parody of the Trinity The dragon, the beast of the sea, and the beast of the earth are three mysterious figures in Revelation 12 and 13. They are an anti-Trinity, a parody of the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Their precise identities are unclear, but John inserts a clear interpretation of what this all means for the saints, who oppose evil masquerading as God: “God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful” (13:10).
