C hain Stitch

Chain stitch is the first, and most basic, of all crochet stitches. Most crochet patterns will begin by creating a certain number of chain stitches.

Step 1: Hands in the starting position, slip knot on hook.

Step 2: Yarn over hook, pull through to create 1 chain.

Step 3: Gently pinch the chain stitch you’ve just made, and repeat.

Step 4: Continue as above until you have counted the correct number of chain stitches. The slip stitch does not count. Lost track? See below for how to count chain stitches.
