alf Treble Stitch
(USA stitch name: Half Double Stitch)
Once you are working double crochet stitches with confidence, you’re ready to try Half Treble Stitch! The result is not quite as dense as double crochet, so it is slightly softer, and is ideal for warm clothing and baby/children’s clothes and accessories.
To practice the stitch, let’s start with a chain (ch) of 15 stitches.
Step 1:
First, wrap the yarn over the hook (yrh) before you go into the chain. Then insert your hook into the third chain along from the hook. Yarn over hook (yrh) again, then pull through the chain.
Step 2:
You now have three loops on your hook.
Step 3:
Yarn over hook (yrh) and pull your hook through all three stitches.
Step 4:
You now have one loop on your hook and have completed your first half treble crochet stitch!
Step 5:
Continue by working a half treble stitch into each chain until you reach the end.
Step 6:
As you did in double crochet, now make a “turning chain”– for this stitch you need to chain 2 (ch 2) before each new row. Now turn your work around so that you are ready to begin the next row. Then it’s yarn over hook (yrh), slip your hook under the very next stitch, yarn over hook (yrh), pull through all three stitches, and so on.
