S
ewing On Buttons
Once you have crocheted something, you may want to add buttons to look like eyes, or just to make it prettier.
Step 1:
Thread your needle with matching yarn or thread and tie a knot at the far end. (Before doing this, double check that the eye of your needle fits through the holes in your button. If not, use a smaller needle!) Decide where you want your button to be, and bring your needle up through the middle of that area, from the rear of the crochet so that the needle comes out on the RIGHT side.
Step 2:
Now sew two small stitches on top of each other. This will secure your thread or yarn to the crochet before you start sewing on your button.
Step 3:
Grab your button and place it over the area it will go.
Now bring your needle and thread up through one hole of the button. Pull thread all the way. Next go down through the other hole, again pulling thread all the way. Do this 4 times, or until it no longer feels wobbly when you tug on it.
Step 4:
On the underside of the crochet, just underneath where the button now is, do two or three small stitches to secure your thread or yarn. You have now sewn on your button and can cut the extra yarn off. Be VERY careful not to cut into your crochet!
