B aby Blanket:
The thought of crocheting an entire blanket can be daunting to a newcomer – but if you tackle it one square at a time it can be a great way to practice your crochet stitches and use up leftover yarn.
To ensure that each square is the same size, it’s important to use the same weight of yarn and hook size for each.
If you’re going to mix it up by having squares in a variety of stitches, make sure that each square is the same size by adjusting the number you chain for each stitch style.
This blanket used squares that began with a chain of 20, and used double crochet.
Work double crochet across each and every row. After about 10 rows, measure the width of your work. If the width was, say 15cm/6” then you should continue to crochet rows until the work reaches the same height as it is wide, so that you have a perfect square, then fasten off.
Keep crocheting squares until you have enough for the size of blanket you’d like, then stitch together using leftover yarn.
