THE LAST FORTY-EIGHT hours had been a whirlwind of packing and making arrangements for all the details, small and large. It would have been nice to simply disappear in the night, but the risk of an investigation was something they couldn’t ignore. Especially since the police would be after blood if one of their own disappeared. At Brooke’s insistence, they spoke with Chief Wolf and his counsel, who agreed to become caretakers of her property and home. If she or a descendant did not return in fifty years, the land would return to them as Axton originally promised.

Jon Strongblood, Jaxson’s right-hand man, became manager of Jaxson’s construction business. After all debt and bills were paid, the profits from the company would be divided, with a portion going to Jon, and a portion going into an account in Jaxson’s name.

Nissa sold her restaurant to Chief Wolf and spoke with Theiv about accessing her wealth through the Accord.

Danielle resigned from her job and Clay resigned from his. Storm and Sev were both at the end of their service with the military and they were released but agreed to be representatives for Earth on this journey. And that was it. They were all free in a way that scared Brooke to death.

As they boarded Thorne’s ship, Brooke wondered if they would ever see Earth again.
