Crissy shoved Jeri and stood in a crouched position in front of her. Jeri froze when she saw the man coming toward them. She glanced to see if Kara was going to knock him out like she had the others, but Kara was halfway across the floor now, aiming at two men rushing down the stairs toward Autumn.
“Nothing to climb,” Crissy said, and Jeri didn’t know what that meant.
“Do you require assistance, heart?” Victor’s tone was the complete opposite as it had been moments before.
“No,” Crissy said and stood a bit taller and extended her arm further toward the man. “The pail of water.” She said and quickly chanced a glance at Jeri.
Jeri didn’t know what to think until it hit her. She expected her to do what she had at the river. She looked around quickly for the pail and saw it near the wall to their left. “I…” She clenched her jaw and looked at the man, who was more or less sauntering toward them now. His expression said he knew he’d found the two that didn’t wield large weapons.
“Now would be a good time,” Crissy said with a note of panic in her voice.
Jeri knew the others were not going to come and save them. She looked back at the pail, blew out three fast breaths, and held her hand toward it. She didn’t know what else to do.
“I’ll be there in a sec,” Arius said and then growled low.
At the river she’d thought stop and it had. So, what was… Rise. She clenched her jaw and then stared wide-eyed at the water as it rose out of the pail.
“Faster,” Crissy said.
Jeri didn’t pause to think about it. She lifted her other hand and did what she had seen Bethany do with hers in the alley. The water swirled in mid-air. Nodding more to herself than for any other reason, she turned and flung her hands toward the man who was only three feet from reaching Crissy. The water hit him with such force that it sounded like a whip. The man’s head jerked back, and his feet slipped from underneath his body and he hit the floor.
“Women with skills.” Arius reached them.
