It is with the very deepest appreciation that I acknowledge: The late Dr. Jonathan Dye of Buffalo, New York, an early pioneer in natural childbirth, who in the late 1800s, in his book, Easier Childbirth, espoused the philosophy upon which this program is based—that birth is normal, natural and healthy, and, therefore, can be achieved “without pain or peril.”
The late Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, 1890–1959, a husband, father, philosopher and Englishman, who, through his work in obstetrics and his book, Childbirth Without Fear, returned to women their rightful gift of truly natural childbirth. He is a prophet whose time is yet to come. His theories and the work he did to forward natural childbirth are the inspiration for this program.
Those several couples who, at the very inception of HypnoBirthing, had complete belief in this program and were willing to place their faith in the HypnoBirthing philosophy, confident that this most natural birthing method would provide for them the fulfillment they were seeking as they experienced the greatest celebration of life—childbirth. It’s because of them and the trail they blazed for others to follow that HypnoBirthing has gained the recognition that it enjoys today.
Mary Ann Murphy, dear friend, who put the natural simplicity of the HypnoBirthing philosophy into form in her creation of our first logo depicting the love and family bonding that takes place during HypnoBirthing.
George Ferren, my right arm, without whom much of the day-to-day work of the HypnoBirthing Institute over these many years could never have been accomplished. He continues to be a mainstay in the growth and smooth running of the Institute.
