A LAST CHRONICLE OF CARLINGFORD
This final entry in the Carlingford series was first published in 1876. Phoebe is the daughter of a character of the same name in the earlier Carlingford novel Salem Chapel. In this novel, Phoebe Junior is sent to stay in Carlingford with her grandparents (who also featured in Salem Chapel) and the novel centres on Phoebe’s experiences there. A subplot involves the curate Mr May, whose money troubles tempt him to a desperate act.
