Old-Fashioned Tomato Soup

Serves 4 to 6

32-oz. can diced tomatoes

1 c. chicken broth

2 T. butter

2 T. sugar

1 T. onion, chopped

1/8 t. baking soda

2 c. light cream

Combine undrained tomatoes, broth, butter, sugar, onion and baking soda in a large saucepan. Simmer over low heat for one hour. Warm cream in a double boiler; add to hot tomato mixture. Blend well.

Try something new...grilled cheese croutons! Make grilled cheese sandwiches as usual, then slice them into small squares. Toss into a bowl of creamy tomato soup...yum!
