Makes 6 to 8 servings
3 lbs. cooking apples, cored, peeled and sliced
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 t. cinnamon
1-1/2 T. lemon juice
Garnish: cinnamon
Combine all ingredients except garnish in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on high setting for 3 hours. Stir occasionally; mash with a potato masher to desired consistency. Sprinkle portions with cinnamon.
For a simple, sweetly scented place setting, tie a few cinnamon sticks together with raffia, attach a mailing label as a name card and lay a bundle across each plate.
