Shirley’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 4 dozen

1/2 c. shortening

6 T. sugar

6 T. brown sugar, packed

1 egg, beaten

1/2 t. vanilla extract

1-1/8 c. all-purpose flour

1/2 t. baking soda

1/2 t. salt

1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Blend together shortening and sugars; stir in egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly golden.
