She was shaking like an idiot. But he’d been out there. Watching her. Cherise didn’t think it had been a coincidence. He had been watching. He’d also taken off right after he’d seen her.
Izzie stayed at her side, having just clocked out herself. Cherise appreciated the gesture, but Izzie, for all her fire and spirit, wasn’t much of a protector. The pneumatic doors slid open, and Vince stood there, the sun at his back. It made his shoulders look wider and made him look stronger. Some of the shivering subsided.
She hadn’t missed the gun Vince wore on his waist.
It did make her feel a little safer to see. After everything that had happened at FCGH in recent times—including a hospital shooting that had nearly killed Lacy—several of the security guards had been given clearance to carry. All the security supervisors did now.
From here on out, she was going to make sure someone else walked outside at the same time she did. If she’d waited five minutes, Izzie would have been out there, too.
That had her frowning. If Cherise hadn’t been the first one out after their shift, Izzie would have walked right out there alone. Been the attacker’s next victim.
Her car hadn’t been parked all that far away from Cherise’s that morning.
It was getting less and less safe at FCGH.
