As with the larger book from which this is derived (Three Stones Make a Wall: The Story of Archaeology; Princeton University Press, 2017), this book would not even be possible were it not for the efforts of all the archaeologists who have come before me. I remain proud to be part of a long and distinguished academic discipline, working in a field that is of interest to so many people. I’d like to once again acknowledge all of the students who have taken my Introduction to Archaeology course at George Washington University over the years and everyone who has come digging with me at Megiddo and Tel Kabri. I’d also like to again thank Rob Tempio, Matt Rohal, and everyone else at Princeton University Press, as well as Lauren Lepow, copyeditor extraordinaire. I am grateful as well to the British Museum and the National Geographic Society, for permission to publish some of the images that appear here. Last, but by no means least, I’d like to once again thank my family, as always.
