The Harder We Fall

image

The harder we fall, the faster we run.

I bet you tell that to the other girls

you’ve been with before me.

We’ve been around the world

but nothing seems to fit with

the version of our love.

I bet you’d rather run away

with the next girl you see.

I’m not that kind of girl

so you better look elsewhere

for someone who’d run a mile

without the pressures of perfection.

Knowing that I’m just another

wide eyed girl you’ll walk past

is a little to fitting for the world

we both live in. Don’t you think?

The world seems to be far more

greater than the both of us.

The harder we fall, the faster we run.

It seems to be the mantra of the season.

Forgetting the past to make room

for the newer rendition of an old song

we used to play during a heatwave.

Five years ago, in July was when she had you.

You could’ve been with me

if you wanted to but you made your choice.

You catered to her needs

while I wonder around the city

wishing you were there beside me.

I’ve known so much of nothing

when it comes to a love that is true.

Everyone around me seems to be

mesmerized by the beauty of the clouds.

And yet, heaven is brighter than the sun.

All the reasons why I wanted to escape

the life placed upon me that hot July day.
