Let’s Pretend It’s Christmas

image

Let’s pretend it’s Christmas

so the joy of flashing lights

and the star-shaped lanterns

glistening in the sky.

Hanging from the old oak tree,

the wind blows heavy but the strings

is capable of holding onto the stars.

I’ve made some wrong choices

in my life that I’d rather kept hidden.

Because the world thinks of me

as the wrong kind of girl

who wanted nothing more

than to be loved by someone.

Let’s pretend it’s Christmas

while we bathe in cliffside pools

and wander around the city

looking for something new to do.

It won’t snow in July

but I’m sure August will be brighter

than it should have been.

I wonder where I’ll be come December.

Will I find hope in dark places

or will I find shelter in the warmth

of the glowing yellow sun?

I wish pretending was easy

when you’ve grown since people

dealt an ace out from their sleeves.

Let’s pretend it’s Christmas.

Joy was easy to come across

when everything is jolly and bright.

Star-shaped lanterns hanging

from the ceiling as carolers sang their song.
