Auckland Theatre Company is one of the Creative New Zealand's Arts Leadership organisations. It is also one of ten regional amenities considered an essential contributor to the well being of residents in the Auckland region. It is the only theatre company in New Zealand with a dedicated Literary Unit. ATC Literary actively nurtures New Zealand playwrights and their work. It supports the development of 10 new New Zealand plays each year.
Auckland Theatre Company Education is highly regarded arts education programmes in New Zealand. Over 7000students from schools throughout the greater Auckland region experience the best of professional theatre in New Zealand annually via the Company's schools matinee programme. ATC Education supports theatre education and training with a focus on curriculum development, literacy and the arts.
The Company Artistic Director, Colin McColl recently launched ATC Participate, a full-time programme aimed at fostering opportunities for life long learning, engaging with new communities in a meaningful way, and becoming a theatre resource for the Auckland region.
Next big thing is a year-long youth company based at ATC that provides a bridge from high school to drama school and between full-time training and the professional industry. It is a hothouse for new talent: a place to develop new work and new ways of working.
Auckland Theatre Company Ambassadors represent high schools from all over Auckland. They are the glue between Auckland Theatre Company and the teenage audience. ATC Ambassadors are motivated senior students who are actively involved with Auckland Theatre Company for a year. Backstage Stories are an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes before a play goes on stage. It's a great chance to meet the director, design team and the cast, and learn about their methodologies and philosophies.
