Firework Theater ignites new work each year in New York City. Led by co-Artistic Directors Ben Cikanek and Mike Klar, the company (originally known as Kids with Guns) presented its first show, The Blue Martini, at Under St. Marks in the East Village in 2003.
Firework Theater has collaborated with many talented artists across nine full-length shows. Each year, the company curates new work through an open call for script submissions, hosts the Mid-Summer Sparkler, stages a full-length production, and for the first time in February 2012 they hosted the Winter Reading Series featuring four plays selected by their literary team from call for submissions. Last year, they received over 140 scripts for consideration in their season from playwrights across the US and Europe.
