Hampstead Theatre, a leading theatre for new writing, is dedicated to creating engaging and enriching plays that give voice to the issues of the day.
They are devoted to debating the ethical, moral and political issues. At the same time, They maintain a commitment to investing in the talent of the future; their long history bears witness to the dedication to discovering the next generation of writers, actors, and directors.
Hampstead Theatre is a writers' theatre and exists to support a thriving local, national and international playwriting culture. They commission plays to enrich and enliven this culture and support, develop and produce the work of writers at every stage of their careers, and have a proud tradition for creating the conditions for their plays and careers to develop.
For fifty years Hampstead Theatre has been the proving ground where 'exciting voices' transform themselves into important writers. In the past, Pam Gems, Debbie Tucker Green, David Hare, Stephen Jeffreys, Terry Johnson, Dennis Kelly, Mike Leigh, Stephen Poliakoff, Shelagh Stephenson and Steve Waters have all had breakthrough plays produced at Hampstead Theatre.
