Manbites Dog Theater, a professional non-profit theatre company, founded in Durham in October 1987, serves the Triangle area of central North Carolina.
Manbites Dog's purpose is to produce new and challenging theatrical events; showcase and nurture developing playwrights, directors, actors, and artists; facilitate cross-disciplinary and cross-community projects; and help strengthen this region's theatrical community.
In March 1997 Manbites Dog purchased a 6,500 square foot building on Foster Street near downtown Durham to serve as a permanent performance space for the company. The building opened to the public in fall 1998.
Manbites Dog has mounted more than 85 productions in the last 23 seasons, many of them regional or state premieres, as well as a broad range of local and national guest artists and companies in the Other Voices series.
Manbites Dog's company original productions over the years have included Indecent Materials, Hotline, Walking Miracles, A Tune for Tommy, Plays Well With Others, plus the 2003 world premiere of Bucknaked: a love story.
Other Manbites Dog events have included Don't Ask Don't Tell presentations of queer theatre and performance.; and PuzzleHunt, a free, outdoor, interactive performance event held every few years in downtown Durham.
