No Rules Theatre Company founded by a new generation of theatre artists looking to create, collaborate and challenge themselves. To present the broadest spectrum of high quality, accessible, truthful theatre that will open the minds and expand the expectations of a diverse audience.

They value the deep collaboration between artists: writers, actors, directors, designers, producers and musicians.
The origins of No Rules Theatre Company began at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Producing Director Anne Kohn arrived on campus with a drive to find other students who, despite a challenging conservatory curriculum, might be interested in creating outside work.
The result was a sold-out run of Hedwig and the Angry Inch at The Garage in Winston-Salem in March 2009. Excited by their success, they began looking for another city for Hedwig.
In June of the same year, Hedwig and the Angry Inch began a second run at The Warehouse theatre in Washington, DC. The show received universally great reviews and boasted many sold-out performances.
Following the success of that production. No Rules Theatre Company was officially born. NRTC is unique in that it is a dual-city operation, working both in Washington, DC and Winston-Salem, NC. Following the formation of the company, Kohn, Morgan and Sutow also formed a group of company members – actors, directors and designers – all of whom have shown high degrees of excellence in their given field.
NRTC strives to make theatre that is meaningful, experiential, and not just for “theatre people,” and as a result continues to play to increasingly dynamic audiences.
