Founded in 2008, Théatre du Rêve Expérimental has become a leading force of Chinese experimental theatre.
While the Chinese theatre has become shallow and conservative, this group of artists intends to develop experimental theatre in several different directions, such as political, physical, documentary, multi-media, and cross-cultural theatre.
Théatre du Rêve Expérimental has produced nine shows and toured China, Hong Kong, US, Canada, UK, and France. It is one of the most active touring company from China. It is based in Trojan House, a major venue in Beijing.
WANG Chong, its founder, is an award-winning director and translator. His works praised by the media as "exciting work on an international level," "memorable work of the year," and "history in the making."
The group does not limit its style to Eastern or Western theatre. Mask, Peking Opera, multi-media, performance art, Western postmodernism, and the harsh reality of Chinese society may emerge on the stage altogether, creating a unique experience for the spectators.
