Vampire Cowboys Theatre

Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company is an Obie Award and Caffe Cino Award-winning NYC Indie theatre company first established in 2000, with a mission towards the creation and production of theatrical events based in stage combat and dark comedy with a comic book edge. They began on the campus of Ohio University, moving to NYC in 2002. The company is a resident company of Center Stage, NY and led by artistic director Qui Nguyen and Robert Ross Parker. Past productions include the cult Off-Off Broadway shows: The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G, Alice in Slasherland, Soul Samurai, Fight Girl Battle World, Men of Steel, Vampire Cowboy Trilogy and Living Dead in Denmark which featured special effects by Chuck Varga, co-founder of the shock rock band GWAR.

Here is some of their working style.

FIRST BITE: A program dedicated to the development of plays that will be fully-staged and produced later in the season. The First Bite presentation consists of two weeks of script-based rehearsals and series of public performances focusing on the text of the play with a sprinkling of choreography, movement, and music.

First Bite is an opportunity for the audiences to get a sneak peek of a Vampire Cowboys’ piece in development and provides an email and post-show forum for audiences to give the artists feedback to aid in the growth of the play towards its run in the Main Season.

THE RABID VAMPS FIGHT STUDIO: This program is designed to train the company’s community of actors in stage combat, as well as be a place to foster new fight choreographers/performers. Because Vampire Cowboys is a theatre with a focus on stage combat, this studio also acts as a step in the solidification and creation of new movement principles in a physical environment that may end up on our main-stage.
