What began in the summer of 2001 in a converted storefront next to a grocery store has become one of South Carolina’s leading professional theatres. They produced more than 110 main-stage productions.
Fifteen years ago Charleston’s theatre scene primarily consisted of two community theatre companies presenting traditional plays and musicals in large size venues.
Under the leadership of founding Artistic Director Keely Enright and Managing Director Dave Reinwald, the company has built a reputation for consistent theatrical excellence and nuanced cannon of work that is like no other in the community.
After eleven successful years of operating in a converted storefront space in suburban Mt Pleasant, the Village Rep moved into a century-old meatpacking warehouse on a blighted street in the former industrial centre of peninsula Charleston.
After more than 18 months of fundraising, planning and development, the unique property has been transformed, ready to serve as a cultural anchor for the rapidly redeveloping Upper King “arts corridor.”
