Young Vic

The Young Vic specialises in giving opportunities to young actors and directors. The theatre is publicly subsidised and has a high artistic reputation. Its philosophy is to "produce great plays for great audiences, now and in the future".

At the Young Vic, they tell stories that change the way people look at the world.

Young Vic has the most diverse and engaged audience in London, enjoying work of the highest quality at low prices. In their award-winning super-flexible theatre, you'll never feel you're in the same place twice.

Conceived in the 1960s' spirit of iconoclasm and improvisation, it opened in 1970 as a place in which younger directors, designers, actors, writers and technicians could work alongside the world's great theatre artists to present exciting productions at the lowest possible seat prices.

Its intimate auditorium built cheaply with a rough, light-industrial feel, reinforced by low prices, created in concrete a dream of the inclusive, class-free society to which its originators aspired.

Over the last forty years, the company has established a powerful reputation at home and abroad. In particular, the Young Vic has begun to be recognised as the major theatre in this country in which young directors can develop and practise their art.

Their Taking Part programme enables 10,000 young people and local residents to see productions and to participate in a range of workshops, performances and training schemes.

In their latest production ‘ The Suit ‘ Following huge critical acclaim for the world premiere in Paris, Peter Brook returned to the Young Vic with a new musical version of Can Themba's hauntingly beautiful South African short story, co-directed by Marie-Hélène Estienne.
