Use an old Marius sweater or CO 82 sts on a circular needle with blue yarn and knit 4cm (11⁄2in) k. Knit 76 sts k from the diagram in the Patterns and 6 extra sts k either side of the diagram in blue or white. You will cut this out later.
Finish by knitting 4cm (11⁄2in) k with red yarn.
Sew with a machine on each side of the additional sts and cut out. Secure the loose ends and press (iron) carefully.
Assembly:
NB: See the heart diagram in the Patterns. The heart should measure 27cm (103⁄4in) from one outer edge to the other.
Sew the zip on the back piece as described in Good Advice.
Cut out the wool felt with serrated scissors so both front and back pieces measure 42 x 42cm (161⁄2 x 161⁄2in). In the front piece, cut out a heart in the same size and shape as shown in the pattern.
Place the Marius patterned knit work under the heart so that the pattern is symmetrical around the centre. Pin and chain stitch 5mm (1⁄4in) inside the edge using blue yarn. Approximately 1cm (3⁄8in) from the blue seam, sew French knots in red. Place the front and back pieces wrong sides together. Pin together and tack (baste) in blue,
approximately 1cm (3⁄8in) inside the edge. Sew a seam with chain stitch in red on the inside of the blue seam.
