Front:

CO 109 sts with white yarn.

Row 1: Purl back.

Row 2: K2, *sl1, p3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with sl1 and k2.

Row 3: Purl back.

Row 4: K2, *sl1, k3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with sl1 and k2.

Row 5: Purl back.

Row 6: Repeat Row 4.

Row 7: P3, *k3, p1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with p2.

Row 8: Repeat Row 4.

Row 9: Purl back.

Row 10: Repeat Row 4.

Row 11: Purl back.

Repeat Rows 2–11 until you have 29 square rows. The work should then be approximately 44.5cm (18in). Finish with one row as Row 4. Purl back and cast (bind) off.

Back, lower part:

Follow the same procedure as the front piece, but once you’ve knitted 22 square rows, knit

a) Repeat Row 2: k2, *take 1 st off by sticking the needle from the back into the st, p3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with sl1 and k2.

b) Knit back as Row 7: P3, *k3, p1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with p2.

Repeat rows a) and b) and cast (bind) off.

Back, top part:

CO 109 sts in white yarn.

Row 1: Purl back.

Row 2: K2, *take 1 st off by sticking the needle from the back into the st, p3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with sl1 and k2.

Row 3: P3, *k3, p1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with p2.

Row 4: Repeat row 2.

Row 5: Repeat row 3.

Row 6: K2, *sl1, k3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with sl1 and k2.

Row 7: P3, *k3, p1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the needle. Finish with p2.

Row 8: Repeat row 6.

Row 9: Purl back.

Row 10: Repeat row 6.

Row 11: Purl back.

Continue with rows 1–11 as on the front piece, until you have 7 square rows in total. Finish with Row 1 as Row 4, purl back and cast (bind) off.

Blue edge:

CO 461 sts with blue yarn on a circular needle and knit the first round in blue yarn. Continue the next rounds of 3 blue, 1 white. The st number should make the pattern shift 1 st to the left creating diagonal stripes. Continue until you have 7 rows of pattern. Cast (bind) off with blue yarn.

Assembly:

Cross stitch with double blue thread on the front piece following the diagram. You should have four white squares under the anchor and three above. The whole square should be covered in stocking stitch.

Secure all loose ends.

Sew the zip on the back plate (see Good Advice).

Place front and back pieces right sides facing and sew or crochet together. Divide the blue edge into four equal parts, pin to front piece and sew. Fold the edge around the seam while you roll it into a tight snake. Pin and sew it to the back piece.
