This pattern is a little more challenging than the Leaf Pattern because the lace design is worked on the R.S and W.S rows.
The st number must be a multiple of 6+2.
CO 80 sts and work 1 row purl.
Row 1: K1, *k4, k2tog, yo*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with k1.
Row 2: P1, *p2, p2tog, p2, yo*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with p1.
Row 3: K1, *k2, k2tog, k2, yo*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with k1.
Row 4: P1, *yo, p3, p2tog, p1*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with p1.
Row 5: K1, *k2tog, k4, yo*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with k1.
Row 6: P2, *p4, yo, p2tog*.
Repeat until the end of the needle.
Row 7: K1, *k1, yo, k3, k2tog*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with k1.
Row 8: P1, *p2tog, p2, yo, p2*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with p1.
Row 9: K1, *k3, yo, k1, k2tog*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with k1.
Row 10: P1, *p2tog, yo, p4*.
Repeat until the end of the needle, finish with p1.
Repeat 1 to 10 until the work is square (should measure about 40cm (16in) in each direction).
Assembly:
Sew in all loose ends and overstitch around the fabric. Place the narrow end of the fabric towards you and sketch a square measuring 40 × 40cm (16 × 16in), 32cm (121⁄2in) from the edge. Place the knitted lace on the fabric. Pin around the edge and make a small overstitch.
Press (iron) from the back of the work.
Place the linen fabrics right sides together with edges together, and sew together approximately 5cm (2in) on each side. Press the seams apart before you sew the zip as described in Good Advice.
Reverse the work again so you have the right sides together and sew a seam on each side.
