Back piece, top part:

Crochet 78 ch in light blue yarn, turn, skip 1 st and crochet 77 sc back. Crochet dc, but start with 2 ch on each row that makes first dc before you yo and continue.

Continue until the work measures 9cm (312in). Switch to grey yarn and crochet 1 row dc and 1 row sc. Crochet 1 ch extra when you turn. Crochet buttonhole like this: 7 sc, *3 ch, skip 3 sc and continue with 7 sc*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Next row: 1 ch when you turn, 7 sc, *3 cs around the ch loop, 7 sc*.

Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Finish with 1 row of sl st and 1 row sc.

Assembly:

Secure all loose ends and press (iron) the parts gently. Crochet the squares together on the backside by placing the squares right sides together and crochet 2 sc in each ch loop and 2 ch in-between. Crochet loosely so that the thread doesn’t tighten when you turn (see Good Advice)

When all the 16 squares are crocheted together, crochet 1 row around the entire work with grey yarn.

The top part of the back piece is sewn above the bottom part so that it forms a square. Sew on the buttons.

Place the front and back pieces wrong sides together and crochet the two parts together with sc in light blue yarn. Do not tighten the thread. Reverse the work.
