Switch to dark pink yarn and crochet 2 dc between every dc in the first row so you get 16 dc in total. Finish the row with 1 sl st.

Switch to red yarn and crochet 2 dc between every dc in the previous row so that you get 32 dc in total. Finish the row with 1 sl st.

Continue the next row with red yarn, crochet every other 1 dc and 2 dc between every dc in the previous row. When you have finished with the entire round you should have 48 dc in total. Finish with 1 sl st.

Switch to white yarn and *crochet 3 dc in the same gap, 1 ch, skip 3 red dc and crochet 3 new dc in the next gap, 1 ch, skip 3 red dc and crochet 3 new dc in the next gap. Crochet 3 ch, then 3 new dc in the same gap. Continue with 1 ch, skip 3 red dc and crochet 3 new dc in the next gap, 1 ch*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Finish with 1 sl st.

Last row: Continue the same way with 3 dc in each gap and 1 ch in-between while you increase in the corners. See instructions about Granny Squares in Good Advice.

Assembly:

Secure all the loose ends. Crochet the squares together, one row at the time merged together (see Good Advice).

The diagram opposite shows how the patches are positioned within the blanket:
