Chapter 49

DHS–Domestic Terrorism Cell
Washington, DC
December 21, 2107

Dan and Sandy met the Admiral in his office for a brief update. Dan reviewed the progress since the last meeting and told them both about yesterday’s conversation with the FBI.

“I think we’ve got a strong link between some group working from or being coordinated from Albania. The presence of these tattoos on at least two people involved in these attacks is not coincidental. I’ve got the CIA looking into any organized nationalistic groups in the country that could plan and finance such an operation. Albania is a very poor country which has been the red-headed stepchild of Europe for centuries, and they’ve never been known for anything other than an occasional short-lived spurt of nationalism. Admiral, I know this still sounds very tentative and sketchy, but that’s where we stand today.”

“Thanks, Dan. I sense that we are on to something.”

As the meeting ended, Sandy Matthews invited the Admiral and Carole and Dan to his house in Alexandria for a drink the following evening.

“I’m in,” said the Admiral.

Dan affirmed, “Me too.”
