Jacky’s pony, Flicka, has colic, and the vet treats her by giving her a colic drench. This was a liquid mixture poured down the pony’s throat, and in the days before anti-spasmodic medication, was one of the few ways of treating colic.
It’s not a method used now, as there are far more effective treatments. Today, colic is treated by giving the pony pain relief and muscle relaxants, and if necessary, admittance to a veterinary hospital.
