Publishing history

Jump to the Top was one of four titles Patricia Leitch published under the name Jane Eliot, with the longer original title of Jacky Jumps to the Top. The others were Pony Club Camp, Afraid to Ride and First Pony. These were all published in 1967 as part of Collins’ Spitfire imprint: books that were literally pocket size, measuring 14 x 7.6 cm (5.5” x 3”). The book was illustrated, but the illustrator was uncredited save for the initials JJTT.

The book’s next outing was as an expanded, hardback version, number fifteen in the Collins Pony Library imprint. This version appeared in 1973, and was still titled Jacky Jumps to the Top. It was published in a laminated hardback format, with an uncredited cover illustration. It had no illustrations.

The book’s next appearance was as a paperback, this time in Collins’ paperback imprint, Armada. It was issued in 1981, with an uncredited photo cover. There were no internal illustrations. The book lost ‘Jacky’ from the title, and became Jump to the Top.
