Carol walked down the hall at Trapèze remembering Philippe’s advice, feeling supported by his friendship somehow. She went into Gregoire’s office without knocking. This was the only way to catch him. If she asked for an appointment, his assistant with the belly button jewel would put her off forever.
Gregoire looked up from his computer. Carol closed the door.
“Carol, I can’t talk right now—”
“—You told Amandine I was on probation, after you promised no one would know but you and me!” Carol said.
“I did not—”
“—Yes, you did. And you did that knowing that Amandine can’t keep a single thing to herself. It’s all over the office!”
“Look—”
“So unprofessional of you!”
Carol quit while she was ahead, before her voice cracked or she said too much. She turned on her Etienne Aigner heels and left.
