Hell Week is all about a career change for me, so I’ve got my appointments set up—the guy I grew up with who works at a big new-media company; an old colleague from my last job, just to see what other opportunities might be there; and my first meeting with a headhunter, to find out what that’s all about. It should be interesting.
I’ll consider Hell Week a major victory if I say no to just one unreasonable demand at the office and have one extra laugh with friends. Okay, maybe I need to set the bar a little higher. But I’ll start the program with those two items and then go from there.
Obviously I’m not going to drop fifty pounds in a week. But I want to take this opportunity to really chart a new path to wellness, once and for all. I’m hyperfocused on doing the two workout sessions each day. I’ve set up a few sessions throughout the week with friends to help keep me on track, but I know the rest will have to come from within. I’m not sure how that’s going to go. The healthy diet is the other big component of my program. I’ve cleared the house of junk food and soda and stocked up on fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts and stuff, following Erik’s advice. Just getting that temptation out of the way has been empowering. Staying out of bars and restaurants all week will serve a similar purpose, though I might reward myself with a meal out on Sunday, assuming I do hit all the marks throughout Hell Week.
