TWENTY-FOUR

Moving On

EVANGELINE

Cara’s Wedding Day…

It’s been weeks since I killed Hernandez Cortez. Raffaele has hardly left my side since that day. It all seems like a bad dream, but I’ll never forget the moment when Hernandez drew his knife and I thought I would lose my love forever.

I couldn’t lose Raffaele. It wasn’t until I pulled the trigger that I realized the full extent of my actions. I killed a man. That’s something I can never take back. I can’t remember going back into Nero’s home, and I only remember bits and pieces of the doctor who came to tend to Raffaele. I do recall not wanting to leave him, and the doctor having to work around me.

We stayed for a few more days until Raffaele was strong enough to travel comfortably. I think Raffaele held off more for me. Aris had called our parents, and they were on the next flight home. It gave me time to be with my family.

Mom insisted on making dinner on her first night back. I sat in the corner of the sofa watching my father as he and Raffaele talked. Dad sensed me watching him and turned to me. Raffaele gave us space, and he and Aris left the room.

My father came to sit with me, his eyes locked with mine. “You’re my daughter,” he declares. “You have always been and always will be my little girl.” His eye were moist, his voice firm.

“You’ll always be my dad,” I whisper. He held me, stroking my hair and telling me all about our special times together. That’s what makes a father.

Once we got back to our own place, Raffaele decided that our sanctuary had been compromised and decided we would be moving. Within the week, we were in a new house, and it was my job to make it a home. Of course, Ivo and Adriana have a place of their own on the property. A separate house that gives them privacy, as well as giving us ours. Peppa was a love and helped us through the transition into our new place.

I had nightmares for the first couple of weeks, but Raffaele was always there for me. He held me and talked me down. He was suffering too. He blames himself for me being in a situation where I needed to fire the gun.

“I couldn’t live without you. I love you,” I said.

“Tesoro mio, not as much as I love you,” he replied. After that night, the nightmares disappeared.

Raffaele

Evangeline emerges from the bathroom in her dress. We purchased two that day. One was for Cara and Emiliano’s wedding and the other for the party held in our honor. We’ve put off the event to celebrate Evangeline’s introduction to the family. The plans are now set for the end of the month. I let myself take in Evangeline in her brilliant blue dress, which accentuates her lovely eyes and hair. The single shoulder strap shows off her creamy skin, and the dress fits her to perfection. It makes me want to blow off this wedding and slowly take off the dress, paying homage to every part of her body.

She gives me a sassy smile when she sees me.

“We can’t stay home. Cara’s my best friend,” she says, anticipating my suggestion.

Evangeline’s come a long way since she shot that man. I vowed to myself right then and there, as I held her as she cried over the man she shot, that I would never allow her to be put in that position again. It started with finding a new home and increasing the number of her bodyguards.

The next order was to make sure that the Fuego Demonios gang is never resurrected. Out of courtesy, I let the other capos in on my decision. Through Reno, I got in touch with the Satan’s Pride MC, who then connected me with a gang that hates Fuego Demonios as much as I do. I paid them well to make sure Fuego Demonios’s existence is extinguished for all time.

We’re moving on, starting with showing off my beautiful wife at her best friend’s wedding.
