* From Rawlinson’s Papers (attached to his Diary). There are two Rawlinson Diaries. The more commonly known one is available at the National Army Museum. It is a typed script, probably compiled after 1918. The other is kept at Churchill College, Cambridge, and is Rawlinson’s original diary, written up daily in his own handwriting. All quotations in this book are taken from the original. As far as is known, this has only recently become available.
