Fresh mint drinks aren’t just for Kentucky Derby time. Easy-to-grow mint makes for easy juleps. Legend has it that, instead of mint, Uncle Jack made his juleps with tansy (we know now that tansy is toxic). My other favorite juleps are made with the Jack Daniel’s fresh orange or ginger infused whiskies on pages 15–16.
Several sprigs of fresh mint (save one for garnish)
1 teaspoon sugar
2 ounces Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey
Muddle the mint sprigs with the sugar in the bottom of a julep cup or rocks glass. Fill the glass with crushed or cracked ice. Add the Gentleman Jack. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Several sprigs of fresh mint (save one for garnish)
1 teaspoon superfine or granulated sugar
1 ½ ounces Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey
2 ounces pineapple juice
Muddle the mint sprigs with the sugar in the bottom of a highball glass. Fill the glass with crushed or cracked ice. Add the Jack Daniel’s and pineapple juice. Stir. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Several sprigs of fresh mint (save one for garnish)
2 ounces Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey
Ginger ale
Muddle the mint sprigs in the bottom of a julep or rocks glass. Fill the glass with crushed or cracked ice. Add the Tennessee Honey. Top with a splash of ginger ale. Garnish with a mint sprig.
