COLOURWORK CHART
Along the top of the piece, fold approximately 3cm (11⁄8in) of fabric to the back and pin in place. Whip stitch the edge to the back of the wall hanging and thread the wooden dowel through the pocket.
Cut a piece of rope 80cm (311⁄2in) long.
Fold back one end by approximately 13cm (5in) to form a loop and wrap with tape to hold in place.
Cut various lengths of leftover contrast coloured yarns.
Make sure there is enough space for your hanging rod to fit through and then working from the loop, wind your contrast yarn as tightly as you can around the rope and the tail end, winding over the tail end to hide it. When you finish the first colour, cut the yarn and thread the end onto a tapestry needle, then work the needle back down through the wrapped yarn as far as you can go before cutting off as close as possible.
Keep winding with other colours until the wraps measure approximately 5cm (2in).
Repeat for the other end of the hanging loop.
Take a strand of each of your colours and wrap 10 times around an 8cm (3in) piece of cardboard.
Thread one separate strand of any colour under the top of your wrapped yarn. Tie a tight knot to secure. Cut this yarn, leaving long tails to use to attach later.
Slide yarn off cardboard. With the same colour yarn you used to tie off, tie another knot approximately 1.5cm (1⁄2in) down from the top and wrap it around the tassel head 5-6 times. Thread the tail end onto a tapestry needle and work the needle back down through the wrapped yarn.
Trim the tassel ends evenly.
Using the tail ends of the top knot attach to the bottom point of the wall hanging.
