SLIPKNOT

Make a loop near the end of the yarn. Pull the working end of the yarn through the loop and place it onto the hook.

Pull the working end of yarn to tighten the loop on the hook.

MAGIC RING

Make a circle near the end of the yarn and hold firmly in your left hand.

Insert hook into circle and draw up a loop.

Make as many stitches as pattern says then pull tail end of yarn to tighten loop.

CHAIN

Yarn over hook and pull through loop on hook.

SLIP STITCH (SL ST)

Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through both the stitch and the loop on the hook, leaving one loop on the hook.

SINGLE CROCHET (SC)

Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch (2 loops on hook).

Yarn over hook again and pull it through both loops on the hook.

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (HDC)

Yarn over hook, then insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch (3 loops on hook).

Yarn over and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook to leave one loop.

CRAB STITCH (REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET)

This stitch is worked the same as a normal sc but is worked in reverse order from left to right instead.

With the right side of work facing you, join yarn with a slip stitch into first st on left hand side, ch 1.

Insert hook from front to back into next stitch on the right.

Yarn over and draw yarn through (2 loops on hook).

Yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (crab stitch made).

Repeat steps 2-4 to end of row.
