Chapter 15.

MIRANDA wanted to wake up swinging but that didn’t happen. Strong hands held her down when the pain rushed back into her extremities. Apparently the little freezing trick the vampires used kept a person from feeling pain.

He was there the instant she cried out, lifting her back slightly until he could slide behind her. The girl was there, too. She wrapped her fingers around Miranda’s.

The third being in the room was doing something to her arm. He looked at her and smiled. He was a handsome devil; she’d give him that. “I am Barlaam, a healer. I am here to take care of you. This is my mate Jade, and my cousin Adric. Can you tell us your name?”

What good would a name do her? Not like they had 4-1-1 or the internet in the demon world to look her up. “Miranda.”

“Miranda, what is your last name? What House do you belong to?” His tone was gentle but firm. She thought about lying, but dishonesty hadn’t ever really been her thing.

“Taniss. I’m sorry...that really hurts...I think I’m—” Her eyes wouldn’t open. Why wouldn’t they open?

Miranda tried not to panic, but then said to hell with it.

She gave into the darkness threatening her.
